Before range or size, decide how the trampoline will sit: on legs, sunk with a low edge (BERG's InGround), or flush with the grass (BERG's FlatGround). Few counties make that choice matter as much as Donegal does. Met Éireann counts gales on more than 50 days a year at northern coastal stations such as Malin Head, against fewer than 2 at some inland places.
This page sets the three types side by side for Donegal conditions: wind, wet ground and rock. We sell all three, 40 InGround models from €339, 23 FlatGround from €699 and 26 on legs from €449, and deliver them across the county.
| Question | On legs | InGround | FlatGround |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it sits | On legs, with a safety net | Sunk, with a low raised edge above the lawn | Flush with the grass |
| Wind | The most for the wind to catch. Anchor it; net and padding off before a storm | Far less to catch, more so without a net | The least to catch |
| Groundwork | None. Level ground only | A hole dug by an installer, with drainage checked | A hole dug by an installer, with drainage checked |
| Wet or boggy ground | No obstacle if the spot is level and firm | The installer's call: ground water must not fill the hole | The installer's call: ground water must not fill the hole |

The prevailing wind in Ireland is between south and west. Donegal's west and north coasts face straight into it, and Malin Head holds Met Éireann's record gust for six months of the year.
A trampoline on legs with its net up is a large, light thing standing in that wind. Sunk into the lawn, most of it is out of the airflow. That is the whole case for in-ground on an open site.
The county council's landscape assessment counts Atlantic bog as the largest landscape type in Donegal, about a quarter of the county, and Met Éireann puts rainfall in the west at 1,000 to 1,400 mm a year.
A hole in wet ground can hold water. BERG asks for adequate drainage and a check on the ground-water level before a trampoline is sunk. An installer judges both on site.
The same assessment describes a mountainous granite spine running north-east to south-west through the county, and the Rosses as low hummocky ground with many small loughs.
Where rock is close to the surface, digging may not be practical. BERG's advice is to pick another spot or bring in a groundwork professional. A trampoline on legs sidesteps the question.
These are starting points drawn from the landscape, not rules. Your own garden decides.

These are a selection. Every model and price is on the BERG trampolines page.
Both kits fit any make of trampoline standing on grass. Ground anchors do not hold in a patio, concrete or gravel. Check them after every named storm and tighten or re-seat any that have lifted. Ordered with a trampoline they travel free; on their own, delivery is €11.99.
Four galvanised steel corkscrew anchors with four webbing straps and buckle tensioners. The straps go over the frame and can be tightened again when the ground softens.
Adjustable, and easier to take out again.
€55was €59.99
Eight galvanised ground stakes, 30cm long, one over the frame at each leg. Eight covers most round trampolines up to 14ft.
More fixing points. Not adjustable.

We supply and deliver. An installer, landscaper or builder does the groundwork for an InGround or FlatGround, after looking at your garden, and quotes you directly. We can put you in touch with an independent installer.
Delivery is on a pallet with Donegal Groupage of St Johnston, Co. Donegal, free, to the kerbside. Agree a date with your installer before the trampoline arrives, and keep the boxes somewhere dry until then.
On an exposed or coastal site, usually yes. A FlatGround sits level with the lawn and an InGround leaves only a low edge, so both catch far less wind than a trampoline on legs with its net up. A trampoline on legs is still a sound choice in a sheltered spot, provided it is anchored and the net and padding come off before severe weather.
BERG InGround models run from €339 to €1,949 and FlatGround models from €699 to €4,999, delivered free. The groundwork is separate: an installer, landscaper or builder looks at your ground and gives you their own quote.
An independent installer, a landscaper or a builder with a digger. We supply and deliver the trampoline and do not install. If you have nobody in mind, we can put you in touch with an independent installer, who quotes you directly.
Perhaps. BERG's manual asks you to verify that a high ground-water level will not collect water in the hole and that there is adequate drainage for rain water. That is judged on site by whoever does the groundwork. If the answer is no, a trampoline on legs needs no digging.
BERG's manual says that if the ground is too hard to dig, it is better to choose another location or to contact a groundwork professional. In the granite country of west Donegal that is worth finding out before you order.
It is your choice on most models. BERG sells InGround trampolines with a net or without, and SPORTS in a model name means no net is supplied. Round FlatGround models come without a net; the large rectangular ones can have a net or an AeroWall.
No. BERG asks for 2 m clear at the sides and 7 m clear overhead whatever the type. A sunken trampoline takes less of the view, but the clear space around it is the same.
Send a couple of photos, the size of the level ground and a word on how exposed it is. We will tell you which type we would choose and what it costs delivered in Donegal.
