    Trampoline buying guide for Donegal

Most guides start with the trampoline. In Donegal it pays to start with the site: how much of it is level, how open it is to the wind and what is under the grass. Settle those three and the choice of trampoline narrows quickly.

This guide walks through that in six steps, then lists every size we sell with the clear space it needs. Prices run from €339: on legs from €449, InGround from €339, FlatGround from €699, all delivered free in the county.

    Six steps, site first

    1. 1. Find the level ground

BERG's manual asks for level ground, checked with a spirit level. On a Donegal site that often means one shelf of a sloping garden, so measure that and leave the rest out.

    2. 2. Take off the clearance

BERG asks for 2 m clear on every side and 7 m clear overhead. Take 4 m off the length and 4 m off the width of the level patch. What is left is the biggest trampoline that fits.

    3. 3. Judge the wind

Is the patch in the lee of the house or a wall, or open to the south-west? Sheltered: a trampoline on legs, anchored. Open: look at InGround and FlatGround.

    4. 4. Look at the ground

Firm soil suits everything. Bog or a high water table makes a sunken trampoline the installer's call. Rock near the surface favours one on legs.

    5. 5. Pick the shape

Round for a square patch. Oval (BERG's Grand) or rectangular (Ultim) for a strip that is longer than it is wide.

    6. 6. Choose the range last

Favorit from €339, Champion from €699, Elite from €1,109. The range sets the springs, mat, padding and warranty.

Steps 3 and 4 have guides of their own: anchoring a trampoline in windy Donegal and in-ground or above ground.

Every size, and the space it needs

The last column is the trampoline's own size plus BERG's 2 m on every side: the level, clear patch to look for in the garden. Seven metres overhead must be clear too, so watch for branches and cables.

    Town gardens

In an estate in Letterkenny, Buncrana, Ballybofey or Donegal Town, space is usually the limit. A 9ft round, 270cm, needs about 6.7 m across. BERG's Favorit range has the smallest sizes, and a rectangular Ultim lies along a narrow strip.

    Rural and coastal sites

On a detached site there is often room for a 12.5ft or 14ft round, an oval or a 16ft rectangle. The limits are level ground and wind. Where the site is open to the sea, start with the in-ground types and have an installer look at the ground.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What size trampoline will fit my garden?+

Measure the level, clear part of the garden and take 4 metres off the length and 4 metres off the width. That allows BERG's 2 metres at each side. What is left is the largest trampoline that fits, as long as there is also 7 metres clear overhead. The table on this page does the same sum the other way round for every size we sell.

How much room does a 14ft trampoline need?+

A 14ft round trampoline is 430cm across. With BERG's 2 metres at each side it needs a level, clear area about 8.3 m across. An 11ft round, 330cm, needs about 7.3 m across. These are our sums from BERG's clearance figure.

What is the best trampoline for a windy Donegal garden?+

On an exposed site, an in-ground one: a BERG FlatGround or InGround sits at or near lawn level and catches far less wind than a trampoline on legs. In a sheltered garden, a trampoline on legs is fine if it is anchored and the net and padding are taken off before storms.

Which BERG range should I buy?+

Favorit is the entry range, with a frame warranty of 5 years, 8 when registered. Champion has TwinSpring springs, the AirFlow Pro mat and a frame warranty of 10 years, 13 when registered. Elite adds heavier frame tubing and a 5 year padding warranty. Choose the size and type first and the range last.

    Can a trampoline go on a slope?+

BERG's manual says a trampoline goes on level ground. On a sloping garden, measure only the part that is level, or the part you are prepared to have levelled. We do not advise on how to level ground: that is for whoever does the work.

Should I buy a bigger trampoline so two children can jump together?+

BERG's guidance is one user at a time, whatever the size, with an adult supervising. Choose the size for the space you have and for how long you expect the children to use it.

How is a trampoline delivered in Donegal?+

On a pallet with Donegal Groupage of St Johnston, Co. Donegal, to the kerbside, free of charge. A model in stock is delivered within 48 hours and others typically take 7 to 10 days.
